The Deer Gond Art Painting

These colorful deer are drawn using the beautiful Gond art patterns. Gonds are a large tribe in Madhya Pradesh-India and surrounding States. The Gonds painted on mud walls of their houses. Around 1980 the talented Gonds who traditionally served as professional bardic priests began transforming this style into a new figurative-narrative visual art using modern media like acrylic paints on canvas, ink on paper, silkscreen prints and animated films. The art has truly evolved since, with the creative depictions of their natural and mythological worlds, traditional songs, myths and histories.
